Yesterday was Disney day, or something. I’m not really sure what it was exactly, but it meant that Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and Jungle Cruise turned up free on Disney+. It also meant that we got a first look at three upcoming Marvel TV shows: Moon Knight, She-Hulk and Ms Marvel.
Moon Knight
Let’s start with Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac. From this first look I have to say, it feels a lot like Daredevil (2015-2018), which I’m here for. I don’t know that much about the character, but reading up on him recently he feels like Batman meets James McAvoy’s character in Split. The show has been described by Marvel as ‘an Indiana Jones style adventure’, which sounds an exciting premise.
Release date: some time in 2022. No specific date yet.
She-Hulk
As you would expect, Mark Ruffalo’s Professor Hulk is very much part of this story – probably acting as a mentor to lawyer Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, played by Tatiana Maslany. She’s best known as the star of Orphan Black (2013-2017), where she played almost all the characters in the show. She was fantastic in that role and I’m excited to see what she can do here.
Release date: some time in 2022. No specific date yet.
Ms Marvel
Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel, will played by 19-year-old Iman Vellani. Kamala is a 16-year-old Pakistani-American who loves to write superhero fan fiction and ends up gaining shape-shifting powers. Think Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards if he were an incredibly enthusiastic and nerdy teenage girl. I’ve been playing Marvel’s Avengers video game recently, which focuses on her story. I found Kamala – at least in the game – to be truly delightful. I’m excited to see her in this show.
Release date: Late 2022 (likely between October and December).
